When the wheels of the car head down US#1 from Homestead Florida and roll onto the grade separation into Key Largo, that’s when I feel my Florida Keys enchantment kicking in.
I leave my worries behind me on mainland America.
What do I love about my Florida Keys?
It is those tiny, fragile, come-right-to-your-car-door Key Deer on Big Pine Key.
It’s the glimpses of the Gulf waters on the right and the Atlantic Ocean on the left a you sift along US #1 from Key to Key. It’s the delicious salt air. It’s the tacky-but-cute shell stores, Tee shirt outlets, Key Lime outlets, dive centers, boat rentals… and so on, as you drive along.
It is seeing the hordes of fishing hopefuls that dot the old bridges, waiting for the lunker to swim below and take their bait, with google eyed Penguins sitting on the bridge railing right beside them. It’s being able to stop and park beside nearly every bridge and walk out on the old thoroughfare, and sometimes see mantas and barracudas and other ocean creatures hovering in the glassy waters below.
It’s the incredible Florida Keys sunrises and sunsets.
And, it’s being able to drive in North America in January and February with the windows down or with the air conditioning on, when so many of our family, friends and colleagues are still shuttered into dark, cold, snow, and freezing rain in the North.
I love this!
And nope, I haven’t driven every road and back alleys on the Florida Keys …yet! Though, on every trip I’ve been poking my nose more and more into the Florida Keys wonderful diversity, trying to find those elusive places or services to make my Keys even more special every time I travel to my home in Florida’s Caribbean.
On this website I’ll write about the new and interesting in the Florida Keys so you can fast-track to what’s most interesting to you. I’ll try to answer for you – before you ask them – the many questions that I had before I started visiting this wonderful spot so many years ago.
When you decide to visit, and note that I wrote when and not if, why not use the information on this website to make your planning and visiting easier?
Then you too can succumb to the Florida Keys Enchantment sooner than later. Careful, it’s catching!
